Tillamook PUD Awards Community Support Grants
The Tillamook PUD Board of Directors has awarded funding under its 2012 Community Support Grant Program to eleven non-profit organizations in Tillamook County. Those receiving awards are the Tillamook Volunteer Firefighters for “Jaws of Life;” Tillamook Anglers for fin-clipping equipment; Nestucca Valley Community Alliance for site plan development for a Pacific City community park; Pine Grove Community House/Nehalem Valley Historical Society for an ADA ramp; Neskowin Valley School for a fire detection system; Tillamook County 4-H Leaders Association for 4-H pavilion lighting; Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad for Tillamook train depot foundation work; Friends of the North County Recreation District for auditorium lighting; Tillamook Swiss Society for porch repair and ADA ramp; Tillamook Foster Closet for shelving and storage boxes; and Tillamook Area Chamber of Commerce for lighted signs. Tillamook PUD developed the Community Grant Program to assist local non-profit organizations in funding projects designed to promote economic growth in Tillamook County. In evaluating and selecting projects for funding, the Board focused on the enhancement of economic development, in addition to community livability, financial need and projects that would be completed by the end of the year. Historically, and by statute, PUDs are formed not only to provide power, but also to promote economic development within their service areas. This is the 11th year the Board has budgeted funds for the community grant program and feedback has been positive. Recipients have reported that in many cases, the PUD grant funds were instrumental in securing funding from additional sources making projects even more feasible.
